HESI A2: Veterinary Technician
Veterinary Technician applicants may use scores on HESI A2. If the applicant chooses to take the HESI A2 EXAM, it is administered in the Testing Services department located on the 2nd floor of the Rogers Student Center on the TJC main campus or at the TJC West Location.
An applicant must take the following HESI subtests:
- Math
- Reading
- Biology
- Grammar
- Learning Style (not included in points)
- Personality Profile (not included in points)
Steps an applicant must complete in order to take the HESI A2 exam:
- Set up a HESI account by going to https://evolve.elsevier.com. Click on the Login link and then click on the Create Account link. Make sure to write down the user id and password you created as this information will be required on the day of the test.
- You must have an appointment to take the exam. You can schedule an appointment at tjctesting.setmore.com. Please note some firewalls may block directly linking to this site. If this happens to you, please open a browser and type in "TJCTesting.Setmore.com" and link to our booking page through this alternative option. You may take your HESI exam at the Main Campus testing center located in the Rogers Student Center or at the testing center located at TJC West. You must be at the testing facility and ready to test at the time assigned to you. - When you arrive for testing, you will be required to pay a $79 testing fee. Payment can be at the Testing Center. Testing Services will accept checks, credit cards, money orders, or cash payments. Along with the receipt of the test fee payment, you will need to present a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, military ID, passport, concealed handgun license, or TJC Student ID.
- On the day of the test, make sure you have your HESI Account User ID (Evolve account) and Password (see step 1 for details).
What is the HESI Exam?
The HESI A2 exam is a comprehensive test that evaluates the academic and social skills of new applicants to the Veterinary Technician program. A brief explanation of each subtest follows:
- Math: Focuses on math skills for health care fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportions, household measures, and general math facts.
- Reading: Provides reading scenarios over medical topics in order to measure reading comprehension, identifying the main idea, finding the meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, and making logical inferences.
- Biology: The Biology test covers photosynthesis, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, biology basics, and biological molecules.
- Grammar: Contains basic grammar, including parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, commonly occurring grammatical errors, etc.
- Personality Profile: Uses concepts related to introversion and extroversion to classify the student’s personality style.
- Learning Style: Assesses the preferred learning style of the prospective applicant and offers test-taking and study tips suited to that learning style.
How Much Does the HESI A2 Cost and What do I Need to Take the Exam?
The cost of the exam is $79.00 for Tyler Junior College students. The student must pay for the exam and present a receipt to complete the exam. Payment can be made at the Testing Center. The Testing Center will accept checks, credit cards, money orders, or cash payments. Along with receipt of payment, the student will need to present a photo ID. Calculators may be used during the exam and are provided by the Testing Center
Can a Student Retest?
One or more sections of the HESI A2 Version 1 Test may be retaken once per application period to achieve a better score. HESI A2 Version 1 is the only version accepted. Test scores are good for two application periods.
