How to Apply: Respiratory Care

 The Admission Guidelines document outlines the admission requirements in detail. It has been designed to easily guide you through the application process.

Eligibility Requirements:  

  1. GPA Requirement: You must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher to apply.
  2. Non-TJC Students: If you are not currently a TJC student, you must apply to the college and be accepted.
  3. New TJC Students: Meet with the Nursing and Health Sciences (NHS) Advisors to have your transcripts evaluated before applying to the program. For more information, call 903-510-3287.
  4. Application Submission: Only online applications will be accepted. Click here to complete your application.
  5. Application Period: Applications are accepted from April 15th to June 15th.
  6. Interviews: Last Thursday of June for selected applicants.
  7. Notification: After the application deadline, you will receive a notification of your application status via your TJC email.
  8. Previous Program Participation: If you have been in any other nursing and health professions program and left for any reason, you must submit Verification of Good Standing from that program.
  9. Complete ATI TEAS Exam-Version 7 testing OR the HESI A2 Exam: This is offered through TJC Testing Services. These are standardized exams designed to specifically assess a student’s preparedness for entering the health science field. You must score 50% or better to be considered for the program. (More information about the test is available from atitesting.com/TEAS.)
  10. Essential Functions: You must be able to perform the Essential Functions of a Respiratory Therapist.
  11. Minimum Age: Must be 18 or older.
  12. Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all the colleges you have attended. These must be submitted to the TJC Registrar’s Office. Your GPA must be above 2.5 to be eligible for the program.
  13. Prior Enrollment Clearance: If you have been in any other nursing and health professions program and have left for any reason, you must submit a letter of good standing from that program. If you are ineligible for readmission or have been dismissed from any Nursing Health Sciences program you are not eligible to apply to the Respiratory Care Program.
  14. Prerequisite Completion: The Respiratory Care Program is a two-year curriculum that includes one semester (14 credit hours) of prerequisite courses. Prerequisite courses must be completed before you can apply to the program. All prerequisite courses should be completed with a “C” or better and a grade point average of at least 2.5 and, must have been completed within the last 5 years.

Ineligibility:

Applicants are ineligible for admission if any of the following apply:

  • You do not have all the required prerequisites.
  • You are ineligible for readmission or have been dismissed from any NHS program.
  • Your GPA is less than 2.5.
  • You knowingly furnish false information or alter applications to the college.
  • You fail a drug screen and/or a criminal background check.
