The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance is preparing for the 36th annual production of one of its most time-honored traditions, “The Nutcracker” ballet.
Performances are scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Dec. 6-8 and Dec. 13-15, in Wise Auditorium, located in the Rogers Palmer Performing Arts Center on the TJC central campus.
Show times are:
• 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 and Dec. 13
• 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14
• 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15

The production is under the direction of Carolyn Hanna, director of the TJC Academy of Dance and chair of the TJC Department of Dance.
Assistant choreographers are TJC dance professors Shurrell Wiebe, Thereza Bryce-Cotes, Kristi Franks and TJC dance department alumna Elexis Wiebe.
“‘The Nutcracker’ is such a wonderful introduction to the magic of ballet,” Hanna said. “I love incorporating our exceptional dancers in this show! Our students have worked hard for several months to present this production to the community. We are so humbled by the support of East Texans and are excited to offer two weekends of performances to fill the demand!”
She continued, “This year, we have more than 200 performers, and you can definitely feel the excitement on the stage. These dancers have been rehearsing since September, so the end result will be something quite remarkable.”
Guest artists
Nayara Lopes and Arian Molina Soca, both principal dancers with the Philadelphia Ballet, will perform the featured roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier Dec. 6-8. TJC Academy of Dance alumna Evelyn Robinson and Juantaro Coste, both dancers with The Finnish National Ballet, will perform the featured roles Dec. 13-15.
