
The TJC Speech and Debate team recently returned from two national competitions, bringing home an armload of awards.
TJC won 1st Place in the Community College Sweepstakes at the American Forensic Association’s National Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
“This was a tournament that our students have to qualify for in order to even attend, so to have qualified seven students in multiple events was a worthy accomplishment,” said M’Liss Hindman, TJC speech professor and team director.
The team then traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, to compete at the Phi Rho Pi Community College Tournament, where over 50 colleges from around the country were in attendance.

Gold:
• Hannah Miner, of Paris, Parliamentary Debate
• Logan Wells, of Saratoga, Parliamentary Debate
• Logan Wells in Extemporaneous Speaking
Silver:
• Victoria Olivares, of Grand Saline in Extemporaneous Speaking
• Logan Wells in Impromptu Speaking
• Logan Wells in IPDA debate
Bronze:
Victoria Olivares in IPDA debate
The TJC team also earned Bronze Sweepstakes in Debate.
Wells also earned 3rd place for Top Overall Speaker at the tournament, Top Speaker for preliminary scores in IPDA Debate, and 2nd Top Speaker for preliminary scores in Parliamentary Debate.
The TJC team includes: Natasha Garcia from Saratoga, Kailee Huston from Lindale, Jesse Leuzinger from Grand Saline, Hannah Miner from Paris (TX), Victoria Olivares from Grand Saline, Sarah Sundholm from Lindale and Logan Wells from Saratoga.
