For the sixth straight year, Tyler Junior College has met – and exceeded -- its goal of collecting 50 gallons of blood.
According to Jacque Decker, Carter BloodCare manager of operations and field recruitment, 54.6 gallons or 437 units were collected during the week-long blood drive at the College. Since TJC began its “50 Gallon Challenge” six years ago, more than 300 gallons of blood have been collected, potentially saving more than 7,200 lives here in East Texas.
“Students, faculty, staff and people from the Tyler community rolled up their sleeves and donated to enable us to exceed our goal,” said TJC’s Director of Student Life Lauren Tyler. “We are so grateful for everyone’s willingness to help others, and we are already making plans to do this again next year.”
