Tyler Junior College students were recognized for journalistic excellence at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Awards ceremony held March 24 in Dallas.
The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association is the oldest collegiate media association in the country. This year, 71 Texas schools and more than 400 students participated in the multi-media conference. The annual awards honor excellence in collegiate student media across two-year and four-year colleges.
The Bell Tower Literary magazine placed first in the state in its division. The DrumBeat newspaper and television each placed second in their divisions.
“These awards are like the Oscars of the student media world. It is inspirational to see our students hold their own against students from across the state from both two- and four-year schools,” said Dr. Linda Gary, dean of the TJC School of Humanities, Communications and Fine Arts.
