New York poet Sarah Kay will perform at Tyler Junior College on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in Jenkins Hall Admiral Inman Room (1109) on the TJC main campus.
The event is free and open to the public. A book signing for her latest book, All Our Wild Wonder, will follow.
Sarah Kay has been performing her spoken word poetry since she was 14 years old and was a featured poet on HBO’s “Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry Jam” in 2006. That year she was also the youngest poet to compete in the National Poetry Slam. Since then, Sarah has shared her poetry in venues and classrooms around the world. She is perhaps best known for her 2011 TED talk, which garnered two standing ovations and has been seen over seven million times online. Sarah Kay is the best-selling author of four books of poetry including B, No Matter the Wreckage, The Type and All Our Wild Wonder. She is a celebrated performer in more than 25 countries and in hundreds of venues including Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, the Tribeca Film Festival, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the Nantucket Project, the Apollo Theater and the Royal Danish Theatre. She is an alumnus of the United Nations International School and a graduate of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Grinnell College.
