The Center for Earth and Space Science Education at TJC presents a new educational exhibit exploring the science of sports.
“Sportsology” will open to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 18. A special, members-only preview will be held 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Sept.17.
The exhibit is a series of hands-on challenges that allow visitors to test their athletic abilities while learning how their bodies work. Interactive exhibits encourage visitors to explore, experiment and discover the science behind sports.
“Sports are an important part of our lives and, by many accounts, are directly linked to health, self-esteem and community building,” said Dr. Beau Hartweg, TJC science center director.
“Especially in this region, sports are a common experience for many residents and an important component of everyday life. With this exhibit we hope to inspire minds for science, one visit at a time.”
Overall, “Sportsology” aims to introduce science of the human body through a popular pastime and to promote healthy choices and increased body awareness.
Through this common experience, “Sportsology” aims to have an impact on visitors and school children by encouraging hands-on exploration with exhibits and activities that test their own levels of fitness and athletic ability. A variety of exhibits will help visitors explore different kinds of athletic abilities including strength, speed, endurance, balance, coordination and agility.
