Tyler Junior College has announced New Student Orientation sessions for students entering TJC in the fall 2019 semester.
“New Student Orientation is a great introduction to life at TJC and offers our new Apaches an opportunity to register early for their fall semester classes,” said Murphy Turner, coordinator of TJC new student and family programs.
Sessions are available on the following dates:
- June 17-18
- June 20-21
- June 24-25
- June 27-28
- July 8-9
- July 11-12
- July 15-16
- July 18-19
By attending orientation before their first semester, new TJC students can:
- Become familiar with TJC’s 145-acre campus
- Meet with advisors and create their personal fall schedule
- Make connections with fellow new students
- Network with faculty, staff and administrators
Jaela Wideman, a sophomore nursing major from Tyler, is one of 18 Apache Chiefs, a group of student leaders who guide new students through orientation.
“I remember seeing the Apache Chiefs when I first came to orientation as a freshman and thinking I might like to be one someday,” Wideman said. “I wanted to become involved so that I could help others learn about TJC the same way other students helped me.”
This year’s roster of Apache Chiefs include: Dornell Crist, Madisonville; Justin Crowe, Jacksonville; Julianna Geter, Arlington; Victor Jacobo, Tyler; Hannah Lair, Carlinville, Illinois; Christian Marez, Longview; Chelsea Mederes, Crosby; Aaliyah Melahn, Lindale; Kyleigh Moody, Lindale; Kacey Moore, Yantis; Samuel Ortiz, Dallas; Ariel Robinson, Keller; Emilee Rogers, Canton; MaKenlie Stanley, Kaufman; Justin Thomas, DeSoto; Jayla Tillis, Trinity; Jarrie Trimble, Fort Worth; and Jaela Wideman, Tyler.
Cost for TJC New Student Orientation is $30 per student, and the fee covers materials plus meals in the TJC dining hall. Students can pay an additional $20 for lodging in TJC residence halls.
Before registering for orientation, students need to have already applied for admission to TJC and met testing requirements.
Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. To register, go to TJC.edu/orientation.
Parents and family members are also encouraged to attend; and special sessions have been designed specifically with parents in mind, giving them an opportunity to meet and ask questions of faculty and staff. Family members can attend at an additional cost of $50 per person.
Students who require special accommodations during orientation can contact Tina Dillman, in advance, to arrange interpreting services at 903-510-2841 or Margaret Rapp for all other disability accommodation needs at 903-510-2878.
For special needs with lodging, prior arrangements can be made by calling TJC Residential Life & Housing at 903-510-2345.
