Tyler Junior College has added three New Student Orientation sessions in August, due to June and July sessions reaching capacity.
The one-day events will be held Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 6-8.
Cost for is $10 per student, and the fee covers materials plus meals in the TJC dining hall.
Before registering for orientation, students need to have already applied for admission to TJC and met testing requirements.
To register, go to TJC.edu/orientation.
“New Student Orientation is a great introduction to life at TJC and offers our new Apaches an opportunity to register early for their fall classes,” said Murphy Turner, coordinator of TJC new student and family programs.
By attending orientation before their first semester, new TJC students can:
• Become familiar with TJC’s 145-acre campus
• Meet with advisors and create their personal fall schedule
• Make connections with fellow new students
• Network with faculty, staff and administrators
Incoming TJC freshman David Harris of Chapel Hill said, “I received the Presidential Honors Scholarship and I like the idea of staying close to home, so TJC is the best choice for me.”
He added, “I’m planning to use the TJC criminal justice career path to eventually lead me to law school.”
After graduating from TJC, Harris plans to transfer to Texas A&M’s ROTC program.
Parents and family members are also encouraged to attend orientation; and special sessions have been designed specifically with parents in mind, giving them an opportunity to meet and ask questions of faculty and staff. Family members can attend at an additional cost of $25 per person.
Students who require special accommodations during orientation can contact Tina Dillman, in advance, to arrange interpreting services at 903-510-2841 or Margaret Rapp for all other disability accommodation needs at 903-510-2878.
