Renowned euphonium soloist Mauro Martins will perform Friday in Jean Browne Theatre on the Tyler Junior College main campus.
The 40-minute recital will begin at noon, followed by a question-and-answer session and master class.
Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
A native of Portugal, Martins first found his passion for music playing in symphonic bands and, at the age of 15, joined The Professional School of Arts in Covilhã, where he studied the euphonium with teachers Nuno Machado, Ricardo Antão and Luís Oliveira, among others. He later went on to study with Sérgio Carolino and Ricardo Antão at the School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto.
He has won many international competitions, including first prize at the Terras De La Salette wind competition in Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal; Filarmonia d’Ouro; and the Concours International de Saxhorn, Euphonium and Tuba de Tours.
This year, he will perform as a soloist in Oslo and Bergen, Norway, the North Texas Low Brass Camp and the Asian Tuba and Euphonium Festival in Beijing.
