In observance of National Chemistry Week, the Tyler Junior College Department of Chemistry will host a public lecture highlighting the opioid epidemic.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the Apache Rooms in Rogers Student Center on the TJC main campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Emmanuel Elueze, a physician with UT Health Science Center at Tyler.
Elueze will discuss opioids and their benefits, as well as their associated adverse effects and harms. He will review the public health impact of the opioid overdose crisis nationally and locally, and address measures to alleviate the crisis.
He earned his M.D. degree from University of Ibadan Medical School, Nigeria, and Ph.D. in pharmacology from University of London, United Kingdom. He completed his residency in internal medicine from St. Luke’s Medical Center (Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is a primary care internal medicine physician with board certification in internal medicine, addiction medicine and hospice and palliative care medicine, with a certification in pain management.
